As chronicled in the highly-acclaimed film Concussion, Dr. Bennet Omalu was the first doctor to discover, identify and report chronic brain damage as a major factor in the disease CTE. In 2015, Dr. Omalu received the WebMD Health Hero Award for his work in raising awareness of CTE. Born in Nigeria and now a U.S. citizen, he was named a 2016 Great Immigrant honoree by Carnegie Corporation of New York.
